Sparkling Spiced Maple & Citrus Cocktail

Savor the waning wintery season with a sparkling cocktail that combines warming spices with sweet, rich local maple syrup, a bright pop of citrus and your favorite bubbly. Ingredients

Sparkling Spiced Maple & Citrus Cocktail
  • 4–4½ ounces sparkling wine or nonalcoholic bubbly beverage
  • 1 ounce lemon or orange juice
  • ½–1 ounce spiced maple simple syrup
Spiced Maple Simple Syrup
  • ½–1 cup pure maple syrup
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 star anise
  • 3–5 whole allspice berries
  • 1-inch fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 1 round of orange rind

Preparation

Sparkling Spiced Maple & Citrus Cocktail

Combine and garnish with cinnamon stick or citrus rind.

Spiced Maple Simple Syrup

Combine ingredients in a small saucepan on low/medium heat.

Bring to boil for 2–3 minutes, and simmer for another 10.

Cool completely. Strain and transfer to a mason jar. If you prefer a stronger spice, keep the dried spices (cinnamon stick, star anise and allspice) in the jar. Refrigerate and use in cocktails, tea/ lemon water, or pancakes.
