"Mistaken" White Negroni

At the outset of 2020, newly engaged, my fiancé and I were planning for our beautiful summer wedding a mere eight months away: the garden ceremony, lilac roses, white linens, champagne bridesmaid dresses and every other decision in between. How mistaken our anticipated summertime plans would turn out to be. Like many other couples navigating their pending nuptials during quarantine, we decided to postpone. And while we wait as the world slowly reopens, we’re happy to be at home—the place where we have always loved to eat, drink and just be.

Our latest cocktail creation is the marriage of two beloved takes on a Negroni: white and sbagliato. Somewhere between a classic Negroni, Aperol spritz and gin & tonic, my interpretation of a White Negroni Sbagliato is an expression of what was (and still is) our beautiful summer wedding to be: gin for the white linens, prosecco for the color of the bridesmaids’ dresses, elderflower liqueur for the lilac rose bouquets, topped with a vegetal garnish for our garden ceremony. Although sbagliato in Italian means mistaken, this is a cocktail that shows you how to make the best of an unforeseen change.
