Johnson Estate Winery
Johnson Estate Winery is New York State’s oldest estate winery offering wines to suit most any tastes including dessert, specialty and ice wines. The tasting room is open daily throughout the year except major holidays. An estate, or farm winery, uses grapes grown and processed on-site and Johnson’s grapes are under the careful watch of Frederick Johnson, Jr., third generation owner of the farm.
The farm at Johnson Estate includes more than 300 acres of land bisected by Freelings Creek which drains into nearby Lake Erie. Vineyards cover 115 of those acres including four Labrusca vineyards, six French-American Hybrid, and three Vinifera varieties. The care given to the farm and its natural resources, including its meadows, creeks, and woodlands, reflects the family’s desire to be good stewards of the land for future generations.
In addition to estate grapes, Johnson purchases a limited supply of vinifera grapes, notably Bordeaux type grapes, from Long Island. Wines made from these grapes are sold under the Freelings Creek label.
