Why We Love It: Owners Steve and Julie Rockcastle embrace a lifestyle and farm that provides nourishing food while they steward a beautiful piece of land that has been a community gathering place for decades. Since 1992, they have hosted the Great Blue Heron Music Festival and they currently welcome visitors to stay overnight as campers or Airbnb guests. The Airbnb-like website Hipcamp recently named The Heron the best camping experience in New York! Summer events on the farm often include music, workshops, farm tours and plenty of family fun.
Located halfway between Panama and Sherman, NY in the rolling hills of Chautauqua County, the self-serve Green Heron Growers Farm Store is open every day throughout the year from 8am-8pm. Offerings include their 100% grass-fed beef, GMO-free pork, certified organic chicken, shiitake mushrooms and vegetables as well as honey, tart cherry juice, maple syrup and ready-to-eat items like soup, pesto and their famous shiitake hazelnut pate.
