WARMTH AND COMFORT
Winter season has arrived and with it a satisfaction of coming full circle. From early spring’s shoots, to summer’s lush growth, followed by autumn’s fruitful harvest, the northern hemisphere has finally entered a season of rest. Modern life often continues at full speed despite the changes happening around us, but if we accept cues from nature and align in some small way with our surroundings, a feeling of ease arises. With the cold comes more time spent indoors savoring warmth and stillness. It feels right to surround oneself with favorite people, finding comfort in the senses. The Danish concept of hygge (HYOO-gah) conveys a quality of coziness that fosters internal wellness and contentment. Our favorite recipes during this time delight the senses with richness of flavor, spicy warmth and bold colors of red and amber and chocolate. As you prepare comforting foods like this Hearty Curried Coconut Lentil Soup, remind yourself to slow down and nourish. Perhaps light a candle, smell the addition of each ingredient and take your time sipping and savoring with uplifting company or in an act of essential self-care. The time will come to be full and busy and externally focused once again, but for now we can move inside and rest.
